Shein loses UK copyright lawsuit against rival Temu over photos of clothing

The UK court dismissed Shein's lawsuit against rival online marketplace Temu for alleged copyright infringement, a decision that could benefit other online platforms with third-party sellers, according to the August 13th source. The case, which began in May, centered on Shein accusing Temu of reproducing its clothing photos on an industrial scale to capitalize on its reputation.

However, Judge Kelyn Bacon ruled against Shein, stating that even if infringement occurred, Temu could not be held liable due to the servers hosting the UK website being located in Ireland. This conclusion only strengthens the argument Temu will likely raise in the upcoming trial regarding Shein's alleged breach of competition law by tying suppliers to exclusive agreements.
