Sedina Tamakloe Freed As AG Withdraws Fight

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, formerly the Chief Executive Officer of Microfinance and Small Loans Centre, was released from prison yesterday after Ghana's Office of the Attorney General decided to drop a motion that sought to keep her in custody pending the Supreme Court's decision on an appeal against her acquittal. A court in Accra issued a warrant for her release moments after the Attorney General withdrew the motion.

The Court of Appeal acquitted and discharged Tamakloe-Attionu on July 30, 2026, dismissing the 10-year jail term she received for stealing and causing a financial loss of about GH¢93 million to the state. The Court of Appeal criticized the handling of the case by a High Court judge and found insufficient evidence against Tamakloe-Attionu.

The Attorney General initially opposed the Court of Appeal's decision, vowing to take the matter to the Supreme Court. However, the Attorney General withdrew the application, leaving the matter to be decided by the Court of Appeal.
