San Miguel GS at La Finca (12 August 2026)

Summer was well underway at La Finca golf course, with temperatures reaching the early 30s and the sun testing players' stamina. The 7th Eclectic competition saw a smaller field due to holidays and heat-caution, but still provided a useful chance for participants to improve their scores. Members were eager to witness the much-anticipated solar eclipse, donning safety glasses to protect their eyes.

The course had been maintained with hollow-tining and scarification, resulting in slightly slower greens that would be necessary as the high season approached. After the round, players gathered at the terrace bar for the awards presentation. Gold was shared by John Osborne and Ben Price with a score of 42 points, while Lee Eastman finished in Silver with 38 points.

There were no "Twos" on the day, so the pot would carry over to the next week. Notable achievements included Pete Baldwin finding the green on the 6th hole, Freddie Ljuhs on the 13th, and Ben Price on the 16th. Adrian Roberts won the McBride Bottle, while Matt Lowe collected the best prize pot of the day from the football card. Two Best Guests were recognized: Gary Cornforth and Freddie Ljuhs.

The club also mourned the passing of former member Steve Higgins, who was fondly remembered for his adventurous personality.
