FCC boss urges Super Falcons to focus on World Cup ticket

The Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Hulayat Omidiran, has urged the Nigerian women's football team, the Super Falcons, to focus on securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup after their disappointing exit from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Omidiran made the appeal following Nigeria's 1-0 loss to Cameroon in the WAFCON quarter-final, which derailed their bid to retain the continental title.

In a statement issued by the FCC, Omidiran expressed her support for the players and coaches, urging them to remain united and focused towards their goal of advancing to the World Cup. She highlighted the importance of learning from the WAFCON disappointment and using it as motivation to bounce back stronger. Omidiran emphasized that Nigeria's long-standing reputation in women's football places a responsibility on the team to continue competing at the highest level, and she stressed that Nigerians should continue supporting the team as they pursue a place in the intercontinental playoff.
