Rescue efforts ongoing after fisherman finds cats abandoned off Pulau Ketam (video)

A group of starving cats discovered on an abandoned floating structure off Pulau Ketam, Klang, are the focus of an ongoing rescue effort. The cats were initially spotted by angler Syafiq Suhaime, who noticed them while fishing and documented their condition in a video that quickly gained traction on social media. The structure appeared to have been abandoned for an extended period, covered in barnacles.

Syafiq observed that many of the cats were severely underweight and hungry, with some showing aggression when he approached. However, due to the nature of his inflatable boat, Syafiq was unable to rescue all the cats on his own. In response to the video, animal enthusiasts traveled to Pulau Ketam to aid in the rescue. According to a follow-up post, 10 cats had been rescued and were under the care of user @Uyienaaa_, while between five and eight remained at the site, posing a challenge due to their fear of humans.

Efforts are underway to transport the remaining animals to safety, but some have exhibited fear and difficulty in approaching. A few cats were found deceased at the location and were to be buried. Rescued cats were severely malnourished and required immediate medical attention, with estimates suggesting that RM6,000 to RM7,000 would be needed for their treatment.

The rescue operation is ongoing, with animal lovers striving to reach the remaining cats and provide the necessary care to those already rescued.
