On August 3rd, a trial began in the Shah Alam High Court regarding the murder of a 16-year-old schoolmate at Bandar Utama High School the previous year. Petaling Jaya: A juvenile accused of killing a fellow student aged 16 at SMK Bandar Utama (4) on October 14, 2025, has been ordered to defend himself. High Court Judge Adlin Abd Majid ruled that the prosecution had successfully proven prima facie against the 15-year-old male juvenile, according to New Straits Times.

The trial proceeded in closed session due to the juvenile nature of the accused. The juvenile was charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty, imprisonment for 30 to 40 years, and a minimum sentence of 12 strokes of the cane if found guilty. However, Section 97(1) of the Children Act 2001 prohibits the death penalty for individuals under 18 years of age.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, with Aqharie Durranie Aziz, Ahmad Iqbal Azman, and Nurul 'Izzati Mohamad as co-prosecutors. Defense attorneys Chew Jee San, Angel Choo, and Yan Zhi Wei represented the juvenile, while Yasmeen Shariff and Jason Lim served as separate observers for the Malaysian Bar Council and the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam).
