Rapido gets 5-year cab licence in Karnataka

Rapido, operated by Roppen Transportation Services Private Limited, has obtained a five-year cab licence in Karnataka, set to expire in August 2031, as per the Karnataka State Transport Authority. The licence, granted under the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016, guarantees sustained operations for its drivers and passengers, while permitting Rapido to expand its cab services within Karnataka's regulatory landscape.

The firm presently functions in 21 cities in the state, partnering with more than 3.14 lakh drivers and serving over 2.04 crore registered users. Over 69 lakh state residents have already availed a ride through the Rapido platform, according to the company.

The licence enhances Rapido's position in Karnataka's urban transportation sector, prioritizing secure, dependable, and technology-assisted mobility. The firm has also been incorporated in the state government's Urban Mobility Mission, where it will cooperate with Karnataka on issues such as passenger convenience, urban travel planning, tech integration, safety, and service regularity.

Co-founder Pavan Guntupalli emphasized that the licence will aid Rapido's cab business while preserving its ongoing collaboration with the Karnataka government and its Transport Department. Guntupalli reaffirmed the company's dedication to operating in strict alignment with Karnataka's regulatory framework, stating that clear and predictable regulation benefits all parties involved - commuters, drivers, platforms, and the government.

Rapido's Karnataka operations extend beyond Bengaluru to cities such as Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi, Davangere, Shivamogga, Ballari, Kalaburagi, and Tumakuru.
