Rajya Sabha Chairperson regrets disruptions during Monsoon Session; House productivity only 39%

Rajya Sabha Chairperson C.P. Radhakrishnan voiced deep regret over disruptions that plagued the Monsoon Session, which began on July 20. During the 271st Session, only 39% of the House's productivity was recorded due to frequent disruptions, hindering the business of the Senate. As the session concluded, Mr. Radhakrishnan urged members to uphold the dignity of the House and fulfill their parliamentary duties.

The Monsoon Session saw 12 Bills either passed or returned despite disruptions and adjournments caused by Opposition parties protesting issues such as police action against students over the NEET paper leak and alleged theft of donations at Ayodhya's Ram temple. The House functioned for just 37 hours and 49 minutes, recording a productivity rate of 39.17%.

The Chairman lamented that members did not maximize opportunities to raise the voice of the people and emphasized the need for more meaningful deliberations. He informed that a two-day orientation program was conducted for newly elected and nominated members to instill parliamentary practice and standards of conduct.
