Alex Otti: APC gives Orji Kalu, Nkwonta 14 days to apologise

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has given Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Chris Nkwonta a 14-day deadline to issue public apologies for remarks considered anti-party, or face disciplinary action. This ultimatum was handed down by the State Working Committee, chaired by Chijioke Chukwu, during a meeting in Umuahia on Wednesday.

The 14-day ultimatum comes after Kalu claimed on national television that Governor Alex Otti, who is a member of the Labour Party, LP, would win re-election in 2027, and Nkwonta stated at a reception for President Tinubu's wife in Ukwa East that he plans to vote for Otti. The party's Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, stated in a statement that both remarks were unstatesmanlike, embarrassing, and damaging to the party's unity and electoral chances for 2027.

The APC emphasized that such behavior contravenes Article 21.2(11) of the party's constitution, which allows for disciplinary action against members whose actions harm the party. The State Working Committee called on the two lawmakers to issue unreserved public apologies reflecting their dedication to the party and its candidates for 2027 within the given timeframe, warning that failure to do so would result in the formation of a disciplinary committee to recommend appropriate sanctions.

The APC in Abia reiterated its commitment to party unity and victory in the governorship and all legislative seats in the state during the 2027 elections.
