Pakistan, Norway reaffirm resolve to strengthen bilateral ties, expand engagement in defence and security

Norway and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in defence and security during a visit by Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide to Pakistan. The two leaders met with the Chief of Defence Forces and the Chief of the Army Staff, reiterating their resolve to further strengthen their relationship.

Eide discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security, and bilateral relations with both defense chiefs. Field Marshal Asim Munir emphasized Pakistan's perspective on global peace and regional stability, stressing the importance of cooperation to address common security challenges. Eide praised Pakistan's professional role in promoting regional peace and stability and highlighted Norway's support for Pakistan's mediating role in the US-Iran conflict.

The visiting minister also expressed Norway's solidarity with Pakistan's position on the Gulf war, stating that protecting the principle of free passage is a global issue. Both countries discussed enhancing bilateral ties and cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, education, defence, climate change, information technology, and maritime affairs.
