Over 1,800 Ajumako NPP delegates threaten to leave party over delayed constituency elections

In the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency, an overwhelming number of over 1,800 delegates and supporters from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have threatened to withdraw from the party unless the national leadership allows the constituency elections to take place on the scheduled date of August 14, 2026. Expressing their dissatisfaction with the protracted delay in organizing the elections, the delegates accused the national party leadership of exacerbating internal divisions within the constituency.

Lawrence Abiate, the leader of the delegates and supporters, addressed a press conference in Ajumako, urging the NPP national leadership to thoroughly investigate the reasons behind the delays and impose penalties on party officials deemed responsible for causing disunity in the constituency. He highlighted that the series of petitions and legal disputes surrounding the constituency elections could potentially be resolved by adhering to the party's constitution and election guidelines.

However, Abiate expressed concern that some party officials, instead of relying on the established rules, had either neglected to address the issues or were actively obstructing progress.

The delegates warned that a failure by the national leadership to resolve the impasse and permit the elections to proceed could lead to a significant exodus from the party and its activities. They pointed out that Ebenezer Rbo Quansah Eghan, one of the aspirants, enjoys the support of approximately 1,200 delegates and more than 18,000 party faithful and sympathizers, who they claim could reconsider their commitment to the NPP if the party does not take decisive action.

The delegates also demanded disciplinary measures against any party officials found to have deliberately fueled the disagreements affecting the constituency.

Delegates at the press conference expressed disappointment over the ongoing postponement of the elections and appealed to the national leadership to intervene urgently. They emphasized that conducting the elections in accordance with the party's constitution and guidelines is crucial to restoring unity and confidence among members in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency.
