Osun poll: Amnesty vows to use Fadahunsi as example over ‘kill’ comment

Amnesty International Nigeria is determined to use Senator Francis Fadahunsi as a cautionary example in its fight against impunity and harmful political language before the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election on Saturday. Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, faced criticism after a viral video suggested he encouraged supporters to "kill" members of the Accord Party, which supports incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

However, Fadahunsi clarified that his statement was about politically defeating the Accord Party through voting, not physically assaulting its members or families. Amnesty International's Country Director, Isa Sanusi, condemned the remarks, stating that the organization will use Fadahunsi's case to challenge the impunity of Nigerian politicians.

Sanusi emphasized that advocating hatred is both a crime under international and Nigerian laws, and that the organization will publicly identify and shame politicians promoting electoral violence, even internationally.
