Osun Guber: Amotekun corps, hunters not part of election security — FPRO

The Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, CSP Anietie Okokon Iniedu, has announced that security agencies such as the Osun Amotekun corps, vigilante, and hunters will not be involved in election security during Osun State's governorship election. In a meeting with stakeholders at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo, Iniedu stated that the Nigeria Police is solely responsible for election security, as they have communicated this to the aforementioned quasi-security units.

About 15,000 personnel from the force's combat and tactical units have been deployed to the state for the election, with two units of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) being deployed to local government areas and a unit of PMF already at the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) headquarters in Osogbo. Each local government is attached to a Commissioner of Police, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, and a PMF Commander.

On election day, four police personnel will be stationed at each polling unit, while the police helicopter and drone units will conduct aerial surveillance of the state before, during, and after the poll. Iniedu also called on mothers to warn their children to avoid electoral malpractices, mentioning that a mobile court is in place to prosecute those arrested for electoral crimes. The officer commended stakeholders for their cooperation in ensuring a peaceful poll.
