Osun election: Let peace prevail, Obi urges stakeholders

Nigeria's Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has appealed for a peaceful governorship election in Osun State. Speaking ahead of Saturday's poll, Obi urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, political parties, candidates, government institutions, civil society organizations, religious and traditional leaders, the media, and all stakeholders to uphold neutrality, professionalism and restraint.

He stressed that Osun belongs to its people and residents must be allowed to exercise their franchise freely and without intimidation.

Obi cautioned against political competition dividing communities and causing violence. He implored those within and outside the state to refrain from importing violence and intimidation. The former Anambra State governor also addressed the security agencies, urging their allegiance to Nigeria and the Constitution rather than political interests. INEC was advised to protect the election's credibility from all stages, and international observers were called upon to closely monitor the process to strengthen public confidence.
