Osun drags IG, CP to court over Fadahunsi’s killing comment

The Osun State Government has taken legal action against the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, seeking an order to investigate Senator Francis Fadahunsi for allegedly inciting violence before the upcoming governorship election. The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, filed the suit at the High Court of Justice, Osogbo Judicial Division on August 12, 2026. Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District, was included as a person affected by the incident.

The allegations against Fadahunsi include making comments encouraging the killing of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and their family members, as well as calling for their harassment and intimidation. The state government claims that these statements could create widespread fear, encourage political violence, and threaten the lives and security of innocent individuals. If authenticated, the contents of the video could have serious implications for public safety and the electoral process.

The government is urging the court to compel the police to obtain, secure, and forensically examine the video, investigate the circumstances surrounding its creation and circulation, and take necessary preventive security measures to protect the individuals affected by the alleged statements. The government also seeks an order directing the police to ensure that no person or group acting on the statements can intimidate, threaten, or harass Accord Party members or prevent registered voters from exercising their franchise.
