Osun drags IG, CP to court over Fadahunsi’s killing comment

The Osun State Government has filed a lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police in the state, seeking an order to investigate Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged inciting remarks made ahead of Saturday's governorship election. The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, filed the suit at the High Court of Justice in Osogbo, seeking a warrant to compel the police to conduct an investigation into the alleged remarks.

The senator, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District, is joined as a person affected/interested party in the application. Fadahunsi is accused of making statements calling for the killing of members of the All Progressives Congress, their wives, and children, describing them as "not normal human beings" due to their yellow caps and alleging that the APC members should chase them from hotels.

The government argues that if the alleged statements are proven to be true, they could pose a significant threat to public safety, encourage political violence, endanger lives, threaten families, and potentially lead to a breakdown of law and order. The state also seeks preventive security measures to protect the affected individuals and urges the police to take necessary action, including arresting those found guilty, without considering political status or affiliation.

The government emphasized that the election's proximity makes the matter urgent and stressed the importance of citizens being able to participate in the electoral process without fear.
