Ofankor barrier accident death toll rises to 11

The death toll from a tragic accident at the Ofankor Barrier on the Accra-Kumasi Highway has risen to 11, according to the Ghana National Fire Service. The accident occurred on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in the early hours of the morning. A tipper truck and a Sprinter bus were involved in the collision, which resulted in significant damage to the bus and trapped several passengers inside.

The rescue operation by the GNFS and other emergency responders led to the discovery of an additional four fatalities, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths to 11. Several individuals sustained serious injuries and were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Emergency responders had to clear the wreckage and restrict portions of the road to ensure safe passage for emergency personnel.

Motorists traveling from Pokuase and Amasaman towards Ofankor and Accra were advised to use the outer lane and exercise extreme caution. Authorities are continuing their investigations into the circumstances that led to the collision.
