NPP sets October 3 for National Executive elections, opens nominations August 17

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set October 3, 2026, for its National Executive Elections, with nominations opening on August 17. The party's National Elections Committee, chaired by Frederick Opare-Ansah, outlined the election process in a statement. Nominations will close on August 22, followed by a vetting period from August 31 to September 3, with results announced on September 5.

Candidates dissatisfied with the outcome can appeal from September 6 to 7. The NEC/NC meeting will take place on September 10, and the notice of poll will be published on September 14. The elections will be held on October 3.

Prospective candidates must be registered members of the party for at least two years, in good standing, and have paid their membership dues and fees. They must also receive endorsements from a member in good standing from each of the 16 regions, except for the National Youth Organiser position, which requires candidates to be below 40 years. The NPP sets different nomination fees based on the position contested, ranging from GH¢8,000 for special wings to GH¢50,000 for the National Chairperson.

The National Elections Committee will not participate in the elections, and committee members who wish to contest must be replaced by the National Executive Committee. The NPP has designated committees for vetting and appeals. The Electoral Commission will oversee the elections, which will be conducted through an electoral college comprising various party structures, including the National Council, National Executive Committee, regional and constituency executives, external branch executives, National TESCON Coordinator, TESCON presidents from recognized tertiary institutions, 30 elected national patrons, founding members, NPP Members of Parliament, and special wing delegates. A quorum of at least one-third of delegates is required for the National Delegates Conference.
