Norway commends Pakistan's 'constructive role' in US-Iran conflict

Norway lauded Pakistan's "important and constructive role" in mediating between the United States and Iran during the recent Middle East conflict. This commendation came as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, marking the first such visit to Islamabad in a decade.

Both countries reviewed bilateral cooperation across various fields, including trade, investment, climate change, maritime affairs, and education. They expressed satisfaction with the warm and cordial relations between Pakistan and Norway, and agreed to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Norwegian Foreign Minister Eide praised Pakistan's efforts to promote peace in the Middle East, particularly the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar.

Eide highlighted the large and well-integrated Pakistani community in Norway, noting the positive impact on bilateral ties. He also mentioned growing business ties between the two countries, especially in the energy and fertiliser sectors, with Norwegian companies exploring opportunities in Pakistan. Eide commended Pakistan's role in facilitating talks and maintaining engagement with the parties involved, emphasizing that Pakistan's leadership has strengthened its position on the world stage.

Norway is ready to assist Pakistan's peace efforts and could contribute to discussions on international maritime law, particularly concerning the Strait of Hormuz. The visit aimed to further strengthen the longstanding and cordial relations between Pakistan and Norway, exploring new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
