No tyre marks, no crushed bones: Defence challenges eyewitness accounts in murder trial of senior cop accused of running down teen with Ativa

IPOH, Aug 13 — In the murder trial of senior police officer DSP Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak, who is accused of running over 17-year-old Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie, the defence has challenged the eyewitness accounts. Lead defence counsel M. Athimulan argued that the "run over" theory was inconsistent with the forensic and medical evidence presented.

The forensic pathologist confirmed that the victim's injuries did not indicate being run over, as there were no crushed bones, damaged organs, or tyre marks on the victim's body or clothing. Athimulan contended that the eyewitness accounts were unreliable and contradicted by the expert medical evidence. He emphasized that the absence of tyre marks supported the defence's claim that the incident was a tragic accident in which the teenager was thrown from the motorcycle upon contact, rather than intentionally run over.

The defence also argued that the medical evidence ruled out the possibility of the eyewitness testimonies being true and should be rejected. Athimulan highlighted the critical implications of the prosecution's failure to present "black box" (Event Data Records – EDR) data from the Perodua Ativa, which was crucial to reconstructing the incident and determining the accused's intentions under Section 300 of the Penal Code. The trial will resume at 10 am the following day.
