Mumbai Infra Update: Mahalaxmi Cable-Stayed Flyover Opening Delayed To December 2026 Due To Utility-Shifting Work

Mumbai, August 13, 2026: The construction of a cable-stayed flyover near Mahalaxmi Railway Station is currently underway. Originally anticipated to open by October 31, 2026, the bridge's opening has been delayed to December 31, 2026. The infrastructure project, which will be the city's first cable-based bridge over railway tracks, is set to connect Saat Rasta with Mahalaxmi Ground, enhancing connectivity between the two areas.

The bridge will span 803 meters in length and 17.2 meters in width. A 78.5-meter-high pylon has been erected to support the cable-stayed structure, while the 95-meter western span has been successfully completed. Work on the 165-meter eastern span, partially located within railway premises, is set to commence once the Railways grants permission for traffic blockage.

Most of the piers on the western side of the pylon have been finished; however, construction on five piers remains pending due to the proposed traffic diversion, which will require a permit from the traffic police. To construct a concrete service road and lay utility lines, utility-shifting work is also in progress. Although the construction work is progressing as per scheduled, the delay is attributed to utility-shifting tasks, which have caused a two-month setback.

The Bridge Department has now set December 31, 2026, as the revised target for the flyover project completion.
