Minister affirms Qatar's support for UN programmes on human rights

Qatar affirmed its support for United Nations programmes on human rights during a discussion of its periodic reports on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Geneva. In the concluding statement, Minister of State for International Co-operation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad expressed gratitude to the Committee for the constructive dialogue and commended the contributions of various participants.

She emphasized that dialogue is essential for progress in human rights, noting the dialogue represents a valuable opportunity for understanding, co-operation, and sharing expertise. The minister affirmed Qatar's commitment to developing its legislation, policies, and programmes for persons with disabilities in line with a human rights-based approach.

She reiterated Qatar's priority to promote, protect, and realize human rights as a cornerstone of the nation's reform and development efforts. Al-Misnad highlighted Qatar's aspiration to strengthen co-operation with UN human rights mechanisms to promote and protect human rights, and shared the country's desire to develop training programs to raise awareness of the Convention.

She called for the Committee's experts to consider the diversity of legal systems and national contexts in their work. Al-Misnad concluded by reaffirming Qatar's belief that international co-operation is crucial for achieving sustainable progress in human rights, expressing the nation's commitment to continue working with the Committee, international community, and other stakeholders to address challenges and ensure that no one is left behind.
