Michael Carrick outlines Man United transfer plans after watching rivals spend big

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick highlighted the need for squad reinforcement during the current transfer window, while declining to match the spending levels of Premier League competitors. United's expenditures thus far have amounted to approximately £85 million, securing Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Karl Darlow.

However, they remain the sole Premier League "big six" club yet to breach the £100 million player threshold. Carrick acknowledged the necessity of adding midfield players due to Casemiro's departure, aiming to bolster squad depth ahead of their return to the Champions League. The midfielder expressed satisfaction with the signings thus far, stating that they are "delighted with that" and confidently asserting that the team still possesses "top, top, top players."

Carrick emphasized that while they aim for continuous improvement, they remain focused on winning and pushing the boundaries of their potential. Despite rival clubs' heavy spending, such as Chelsea's acquisition of Morgan Rogers for £117 million, Manchester City's signing of Elliott Anderson for £116 million, and Tottenham's securing of Sandro Tonali for a deal potentially reaching £100 million, Carrick stressed that money does not dictate their primary focus.

Instead, the competition lies within improving football performance. He also addressed Marcus Rashford's potential future, insisting that he remains a United player with valuable contributions to offer. Carrick expressed excitement about Rashford's return to the club, acknowledging his unique qualities that can benefit the team.

The midfielder remains optimistic about the team's potential to challenge for the 21st Premier League title, emphasizing that they are determined to achieve greatness. Carrick's interim appointment became permanent in May, and he remains committed to the task of leading the club to success.
