Man found dead under tree in Tharaka Nithi

In Tharaka Nithi County, Kenya, police are investigating the death of 47-year-old Douglas Keraite whose decomposing body was discovered under a tree in a farm on August 12, 2026. The body was found in Kanyakine Village by a village elder. Following the discovery, police secured the area and Crime Scene Investigation officers photographed and documented the scene.

Keraite's relatives later identified his body. It was transported to Chuka Level 5 Hospital mortuary for preservation while police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Meanwhile, police in Imenti East, Meru County, are also probing the suspected murder of Charles Mutwiri, a middle-aged man found dead in his farm with severe injuries on the same day. The lifeless body was discovered by members of the public in Maganjo Village, Kiamwitari Sub-location, Thuura Location. Upon arrival, police found Mutwiri in a pool of clotted blood, with injuries including a deep cut on the neck, a missing right ear, and cuts to both his upper and lower lips.

Preliminary investigations suggest the killing may have taken place three days prior to the body's discovery. The Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary is currently preserving the body pending a postmortem examination. Authorities are working to determine the motive and identify those responsible for the crime.
