Malay unity anchors national stability for all, says Hamzah

Wawasan president Hamzah Zainudin argues that Malay unity should not be viewed solely as an end goal, but as the foundation for cooperation amongst all communities. In a recent interview with FMT, he emphasized that political stability and a shared economic agenda are essential for the country's progress, benefiting every community.

Hamzah reassured non-Malays that a united Malay majority would not pose any threat, as Malays have demonstrated a history of compromise since independence. He asserted that a united Malaysia would foster peace and enable the focus on the nation's betterment. Hamzah's comments come amid renewed discussions on Malay political cooperation following the BN-Perikatan Nasional (PN) electoral pact in the recent Negeri Sembilan election.

However, it remains uncertain whether this cooperation will extend to future elections, including the Melaka state poll scheduled by February 2027. With Malays and Bumiputera communities constituting around 70% of the population, Hamzah stressed that divisions within the majority could jeopardize political stability and economic development.

He argued that Malay unity should serve as the basis for cooperation across all communities, stating that the future agenda should center around building the nation together, with 'together' encompassing all races. Hamzah highlighted that Malaysia's challenges arise when different races and political groups pursue divergent agendas, prioritizing their own interests over those of others.

He called for trust among Malaysians, emphasizing that a shared national vision, underpinned by competence, integrity, stability, and cooperation, is crucial for Malaysia to progress as a united nation. Wawasan, now a component party of PN and formerly known as Parti Cinta Malaysia, aims to bridge political parties and communities, promoting a common agenda based on trust and cooperation across racial lines.
