Malay unity anchors national stability for all, says Hamzah

In an interview with FMT, Parti Wawasan Negara president Hamzah Zainudin stressed that Malay unity should not be seen as an end in itself, but as the foundation for cooperation among all communities. He emphasized that Malay unity is crucial for fostering political stability and enabling the country to advance on a shared economic agenda that benefits every community.

Hamzah reassured non-Malays that there is no cause for fear regarding a united Malay majority, as Malays have demonstrated a history of compromise since gaining independence. He stated, "There should not be any fear when the Malays are united. They should be happier because once the Malays are united, the country can be peaceful, and everyone can live in peace."

Hamzah argued that a united Malaysia allows the nation to concentrate on the betterment of the country. The statements were made in response to a renewed debate over Malay political cooperation, triggered by the electoral pact between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) during the recent Negeri Sembilan election. The two coalitions campaigned on a Malay-Muslim unity platform, although the extent to which this cooperation might extend to future elections, including the Melaka state election scheduled for February 2027, remains uncertain.

Hamzah highlighted that with Malays and the broader Bumiputera community comprising approximately 70% of the population, divisions within the majority could undermine political stability and hinder economic development. He reiterated that Malay unity should serve as the bedrock for cooperation across all communities. "The future is about the economy of this country.

It is not about whether one race should be united. 'Together' means all races in this country," he affirmed. Hamzah emphasized that Malaysia's challenges intensify when different races and political factions pursue divergent agendas, with each side prioritizing its interests over those of others. He urged Wawasan Negara to forge a national agenda grounded in trust, enabling the majority and minority communities to collaborate towards the nation's future.

"The most important thing is for us to trust each other. The main agenda should be for the majority to work with the minority and for everyone to think about the future of the country," Hamzah asserted. Wawasan negara, a component party of PN and previously known as Parti Cinta Malaysia, positions itself as a bridge between political parties and communities, advocating for competence, integrity, stability, and cooperation across racial lines.
