Mahama promises to complete Upper East Airport within 24 months

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to complete the Upper East Regional Airport within 24 months once construction begins. Mahama visited the site in the Upper East Region on Thursday, August 13, 2026, to inspect the location earmarked for the new airport. The airport project is currently in the procurement stage, and Mahama expressed confidence that construction would commence before the end of the year.

He stated that the project duration is 24 months and emphasized his desire for the process to move swiftly. Mahama highlighted that the airport is part of the government's broader strategy to enhance airport infrastructure nationwide. He announced that similar projects are planned for Wa and Sunyani, totaling three airports to be developed.

Mahama expressed optimism about the procurement process being finalized in time for construction to start before year-end. He also revealed that, although the official construction period is 24 months, contractors have indicated they could complete the project earlier. Mahama plans to return to the region with traditional leaders and residents to officially break ground on the airport once all necessary processes are completed.

The new airport is set to improve air connectivity in the Upper East Region, thereby boosting economic and commercial activities in the area.
