Lebanon’s president seeks to allay concerns over negotiations with Israel

President Joseph Aoun of Lebanon has attempted to reassure those worried about the ongoing negotiations with Israel, following a seventh round of intense discussions in Rome. In a recent post on X, the president affirmed that negotiators and himself would not permit Israel to maintain "even an inch of our land" or "a single soldier of its army" on Lebanese soil, reinforcing Beirut's primary demand throughout the talks.

The seventh round of negotiations, which took place last week in Rome, concluded without any apparent advancements on broadening the "pilot zones" in Lebanon – designated areas where Israel would withdraw its troops and the Lebanese forces would assume control, provided the region remains clear of Hezbollah fighters. According to an Israeli source quoted by CNN on Monday, no date has been established for the upcoming talks, but President Aoun reiterated his dedication to reaching a negotiated solution, asserting, "We always hear slogans saying that what is taken by force will only be recovered by force, but the facts on the ground have proven the falsehood of this saying."
