KPM teliti isu aku janji perlindungan murid, kata Fadhlina

Fadhlina Sidek, the Malaysian Education Minister, has stated that the Ministry of Education (KPM) will hold a special session with stakeholders to address concerns regarding the implementation of a 'promise of protection' for school students. The initiative has raised questions about its potential impact on teachers and those who might be plaintiffs in future civil lawsuits involving teachers, according to The Star.

The minister acknowledged the necessity of addressing teachers' concerns regarding the school protection policy, requesting all educators to cooperate and allow KPM to comprehensively explain the matter. She has asked KPM's chief education officer and legal advisor to convene a special session with stakeholders to clarify any concerns raised by teachers.

The policy in question pertains to the protection of all parties involved with students, including a detailed guide on responsibility and discipline in case of any incidents at schools. Fadhlina emphasized that KPM's priority is to safeguard students, teachers, and the entire school community through a safe and responsible environment.

Meanwhile, the National Union of Teachers and Technical Teachers (NUTP) has expressed concerns about the signatory pledge regarding the policy, alleging that it may force teachers to comply. Fouzi Singon, NUTP's General Secretary, criticized the mandatory nature of the signatory pledge, stating that it is inappropriate and undermines the efforts and services of teachers. He urged everyone not to sign the pledge and appealed to schools not to compel teachers to do so while awaiting joint approval.
