Kgomotso Moeketsi launches crowdfunding campaign for legal battle against SABC

Former SAfm presenter Kgomotso "KG" Moeketsi has launched a BackaBuddy crowdfunding campaign seeking approximately R250,000 to fund her legal dispute against the SABC. The campaign details Moeketsi's claim that her dismissal from SAfm was unfair and lacking due process. She is seeking accountability rather than a return to her position with the public broadcaster.

The campaign follows the SABC's official confirmation that Moeketsi's contract with the organization was terminated after an internal process on July 15, 2026. The SABC has stated that Moeketsi has the right to appeal the decision but offered no further comment on the matter. Moeketsi, who hosted SAfm's weekend jazz programme Seasons, joined the station in April 2020 and previously worked at Radio BOP, Kaya FM, and Gagasi FM.

She alleges that tensions arose after new programme manager Ferdinand Mabalane was introduced to staff in March 2026, and that he linked her to his departure from Kaya FM in the early 2000s, a claim she disputes. The dispute escalated after a listener's complaint about her response to a song request and a technical failure during her broadcast, which resulted in Moeketsi being suspended and facing allegations of contract breach.

Despite her attempts to resolve the matter internally, the SABC terminated her contract, a decision she strongly denies. Moeketsi is seeking funding to pursue the case in the High Court, emphasizing that the issue is not only about her reinstatement but also about protecting the rights of freelancers and independent contractors who may not have the resources to challenge such decisions.
