Katsina United clarifies Ozor’s death report

Katsina United has clarified details about the medical emergency involving their player, Chinedu Ozor, who collapsed during a pre-season game on Tuesday. According to the PUNCH, Ozor was rushed to a nearby hospital following his collapse during the match against Niger Tornadoes at the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Cup in Katsina. Initially, Katsina United reported his death but later, his former club Heartland of Owerri stated that Ozor was moved to a hospital after medical staff noticed movements in his body.

Katsina United's media officer, Nasir Gide, confirmed that the player was transferred back to the intensive care unit at Katsina General Hospital after initial assessment. The club issued another statement on Wednesday, emphasizing that reports of Ozor regaining consciousness were false. The family of Ozor had requested further medical confirmation before his body was taken to the morgue, expressing their hope that he might still be alive.

The incident has reignited discussions about medical readiness at football venues in Nigeria, following a similar tragedy a year ago where Shooting Stars assistant coach Akin Olowokere died during a training session.
