Iran reiterates control over Strait of Hormuz as Pakistan pushes for truce extension

Iran has reaffirmed its complete control over the Strait of Hormuz, despite Pakistan's ongoing efforts to extend the ceasefire between Iran and the United States. On Thursday, Hossein Taeb, commander of the Basij paramilitary forces linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains under Iran's management and control. Taeb emphasized that the United States attempted to undermine Iran's regional standing by initiating another war in the Strait, but ultimately failed.

The dispute over the strategic waterway intensified on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran. Tehran retaliated by striking countries in the region and targeting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. In mid-April, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a unilateral ceasefire in the conflict.

However, by mid-June, both the United States and Iran, with the assistance of Pakistani mediation, reached a framework agreement for a ceasefire. This agreement was violated in July, with Trump declaring the deal "over" on July 7, and Iran's foreign ministry subsequently suspending its participation.

Since then, both parties have maintained their grip on the crucial global shipping lane, each demanding their own conditions. The United States advocates for the Strait's unconditional opening, while Iran insists on specific conditions, including a permanent cessation of U.S. attacks and compensation for the ongoing conflict.
