Instagram changes its wordmark logo after over a decade

Meta unveiled a revised Instagram wordmark logo on Thursday (August 13, 2026), as announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri on the platform and its companion app, Threads. In his statements, Mosseri described the new logo as "sharper and more modern," while emphasizing that it still draws inspiration from the original design and upholds the simplicity that defines Instagram, according to TechCrunch. The refreshed wordmark preserves the iconic script style, albeit with redrawn letterforms.

The Instagram logo underwent its last significant transformation in 2016, when the company transitioned from a classic brown camera with a rainbow stripe to the contemporary pink gradient icon that has become synonymous with the app. Mosseri explained in a post on Instagram that the wordmark at the top of the app had remained unchanged for a decade, prompting the need for a refresh. He added, "Cleaner and more modern, with references to the original and the simplicity and craft that’s always made it Instagram."

Reactions to the new logo were mixed, with some users expressing enthusiasm while others found it underwhelming. Some humorously noted that the font used for the letter "r" gave the impression that the logo now reads "Instagzam."
