India's electronics exports surge 11-fold to Rs 4.24 lakh crore, women's workforce nears 30%

In the fiscal year 2025-26, India's electronics exports have skyrocketed by an astounding eleven times, reaching the impressive figure of Rs 4.24 lakh crore. This remarkable growth trajectory is attributed to a series of government-driven initiatives, including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), and the Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0).

Remarkably, women now constitute nearly thirty percent of the workforce in the electronics manufacturing sector, a significant shift from previous years. This surge in female employment has contributed to the industry's expansion and stability.

India has cemented its position as the world's second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, with mobile phone exports skyrocketing 165 times, from Rs 1,500 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 2.59 lakh crore in 2025-26. This sector has created a staggering 12 lakh jobs, with a substantial portion of these positions held by women.

India's digital landscape has experienced significant growth, with the digital economy now accounting for up to 14 percent of the nation's GDP. Internet subscribers have more than quadrupled from 25.15 crore in 2014 to over 109.2 crore by March 2026, while wireless data costs have plummeted dramatically, from Rs 308 per GB in 2014 to just Rs 7.51 per GB in 2026.

Moreover, average mobile broadband download speeds have witnessed a remarkable increase, surging from 13.67 Mbps in March 2022 to a swift 132.00 Mbps in December 2025, according to Ookla's global speedtest index. The proliferation of 5G services has also been extensive, with 5G Base Transceiver Stations dotting 99.9 percent of districts across various states and union territories.

Rural connectivity has also seen a substantial boost, with 6.31 lakh villages now enjoying 4G services through BSNL and other telecom operators. These strides have positioned India as a formidable player in the global electronics and digital market, driving substantial economic growth and employment opportunities.
