Huge fires tear through homes in UK's West Midlands

Huge fires have erupted in homes and a golf course in the West Midlands region of the UK, according to reports. Dramatic footage posted online showed intense flames engulfing buildings, accompanied by thick plumes of smoke emanating from a nearby field. The West Midlands Fire Service is bracing for an overwhelming demand, citing a fire in Stourbridge as the primary concern, with two individuals suffering from heat and smoke exposure.

The extensive grass fire has affected six houses, with an estimated area of 40 acres encompassing woodland. Care home residents and others have been evacuated as a result of the incident. Around 60 firefighters responded to the scene near the Stourbridge golf course, after being alerted to the blaze at approximately 1:30pm. Footage circulating on social media depicted multiple buildings ablaze, with smoke billowing from a field.

The fire service reported that flames were spreading across roads, urging people to remain indoors. Drone footage revealed a heat map indicating the threat of flames engulfing homes and smoke spreading across the town. Stourbridge town hall has been established as a rescue center for those forced to leave their homes. The fire service warned, "We are currently facing extreme levels of demand as a service, and need your immediate help."

They advised individuals to stay safe and minimize risks of outdoor fires, emphasizing not to attempt tackling the fire themselves or approach the scene to watch.

Meanwhile, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service responded to a large fire in Salford Priors, Stratford-upon-Avon, urging residents to close all doors and windows. Police, fire crews, and ambulances are present at the wildfire scene, which has been declared a major incident.
