Honeytrap thieves jailed for killing men they had drugged

Adina Mihai and Madalin Dumitru, a couple found guilty of drugging and killing unsuspecting men for financial gain, have been sentenced to 17 years in prison. The pair allegedly drugged the victims' drinks with gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) at their homes, then waited until the men fell unconscious before stealing their belongings. Gary Mouat, 36, from Oxfordshire, and Malcolm King, 80, from Gloucestershire, were among the two men who tragically lost their lives as a result of the crime.

The court heard that Dumitru would drop Mihai off at the victim's home and wait nearby with a weapon, while Mihai would administer the sedative and steal from the unconscious victims. During the sentencing, Julian Evans KC, prosecuting, described the pair as willing to act out of greed and emphasized the devastating impact their actions have had on numerous families.

The victims' families, including Gary Mouat's eight-year-old son, expressed their sorrow and anger during the hearing. Mrs Justice Brunner KC, the judge, noted that the consequences of the defendants' actions have "broken many hearts" and acknowledged the joint plan they had to covertly drug and kill the men.
