Haryana Cabinet allows nursing homes on leased plots in residential colonies

The Haryana Cabinet recently approved a proposal that permits qualified medical professionals, including allopathic and AYUSH doctors, to establish nursing homes on leased plots within residential colonies, in addition to properties they own. This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who emphasized the increasing need for convenient healthcare facilities in these areas.

Previously, such permissions were only granted for owned plots. The new rule allows for the extension of this provision to leased plots, provided the necessary conversion fees are paid. The medical practitioner must hold a registration number with the appropriate medical council, be actively practicing, and be registered with the local Indian Medical Association (IMA).

A supporting affidavit summarizing these qualifications must be submitted with the application. The validity of the nursing home's operation on a leased plot will match the lease term, which must be at least ten years. The Cabinet also approved the establishment of a Masters Union University in Gurugram, governed by the Haryana Private Universities Act, 2006 amendments.

The university, to be set up by the Shanti Foundation Trust, will occupy 5.14 acres of land and span 107,358 square feet. This move aligns with the state's broader strategy to enhance higher education infrastructure and increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
