Google unveils Gemini 3.7 Flash AI model for coding, agent workflows

Alphabet's Google unveiled Gemini 3.7 Flash, an AI model tailored for software coding and automated business processes, on Thursday. However, the company did not disclose when its flagship Gemini 3.5 Pro model will be released. Gemini 3.7 Flash is positioned as a more affordable solution for businesses aiming to build autonomous AI systems capable of planning tasks, utilizing software tools, and executing multi-step workflows with minimal human input.

The model was released three weeks after Gemini 3.6 Flash, demonstrating enhanced performance in coding tasks such as debugging, issue resolution, and generation of production-ready code. Google is introducing the model at a reduced introductory rate of 75 cents per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens until the end of the year, which is half the original cost of Gemini 3.6 Flash.

Additionally, Gemini 3.7 Flash is immediately integrated into Gemini Spark, Google's subscription-based AI agent service accessible to Google AI Pro and Ultra customers across more than 160 countries. The move comes after Google co-founder Sergey Brin recently urged top AI staff to focus on the Gemini model as Alphabet endeavors to close the gap with competitors such as Anthropic and OpenAI.

In recent weeks, Google has also undergone a significant leadership overhaul of its Google DeepMind AI division, with its chief, Demis Hassabis, stepping down and being replaced by his deputy, Koray Kavukcuoglu. Two original technical co-leads of Gemini subsequently left the company to establish a startup. CEO Sundar Pichai vigorously defended Google's AI strategy during its July earnings call, addressing concerns about the company falling behind rivals due to delays in releasing the flagship model and losing ground in AI coding.
