Former Australian bishop guilty of sexually abusing young aboriginal men

A former Australian bishop has been found guilty of sexually abusing young Aboriginal men, according to local media reports. Christopher Alan Saunders, 76, was a prominent and long-serving Catholic cleric in Australia. The jury concluded that Saunders, who was once the bishop of Broome, had committed sexual offenses against three young men while serving as bishop of a vast and remote Western Australian region.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation covered the case, reporting that Saunders was found guilty of two counts of sexual penetration and 12 counts of indecent assault. The victims hailed from the Kimberley region, where Indigenous peoples comprise more than 40% of the population. Saunders was acquitted of six other charges.
