Former Australian bishop guilty of sexually abusing young aboriginal men

Former Australian bishop Christopher Alan Saunders was found guilty of sexually abusing young Aboriginal men, according to a district court jury in Australia, as reported by local media. Saunders, who served as the bishop of Broome in a remote area of Western Australia, stood trial for offenses against three young men. The ABC reported that Saunders stood trial for abusing the three men when he was bishop in a region larger than England.

The jury found him guilty of two counts of sexual penetration and 12 counts of indecent assault. Saunders was acquitted of six other charges. The victims were from the Kimberley region, where over 40% of the population is Indigenous.
