Eight years ago, he was convicted of murder. This week, he was found shot in the head

An 45-year-old inmate serving a life sentence for a 2018 murder, Gangasahay Kumawat, was discovered fatally shot in the head near Mishra Market in Janaki Vihar Colony on Wednesday. Kumawat, who had been transferred to an open prison that day, was last seen riding a motorcycle around 5 pm before the attack. Police suspect the murder was a revenge killing.

Three suspects were detained within 24 hours of the incident. Sonu Rajak, 19, Amit Rana, 22, and Kanhaiya Lal Gurjar, 40, were arrested based on police investigations, surveillance footage, and local intelligence. Police allege that Ayush Gurjar, the son of the victim, arranged the murder with the help of his associates. Sonu and Amit allegedly carried out the shooting, while Kanhaiya provided the weapons.

Kumawat's brother Nemichand lodged a complaint at Karni Vihar police station, leading to the registration of a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. Empty cartridges and a magazine were recovered from the crime scene. Police suspect that Ayush Gurjar has fled to Nepal. The three suspects are currently under interrogation, with more information expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
