Doc Rivers reflects on getting into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and those who made it possible

Doc Rivers took his time to compose the speech he would deliver when formally inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He found the storytelling aspect to be effortless, as he naturally excels in that area. However, he soon discovered that the essence of his speech would not be about him, but rather about the people who helped pave his path to the Hall of Fame.

Rivers emphasized that he needed to express gratitude towards everyone who played a role in his success, including coaches, parents, and players. He acknowledged that winning 1,194 regular season games as an NBA coach was impressive, but it was crucial to understand that he wouldn't have achieved his goals without the support of those around him.

The Milwaukee general manager, Jon Horst, praised Rivers as a proven, extraordinary leader and communicator during his NBA coaching career. Rivers, who ranks sixth in league history with 1,194 regular season wins, won a championship with Boston in 2008 and has coached 114 playoff games. He played 13 seasons, won the NBA championship, and was an All-Star once in his career.

Injuries and personal sacrifices took their toll on Rivers as he approached retirement, and he expressed concern over the impact it had on his family. Despite these challenges, Rivers remained grateful for the journey and the opportunity to become a Hall of Famer. He reflected on his decision to leave the Celtics for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2013 and regretted not appreciating the great situation he was in at the time.

Rivers' legacy in the NBA includes coaching a championship-winning team in Boston, delivering on promises made to his players, and leaving a lasting impact on the game as a broadcaster and Hall of Famer.
