Disapproval of Orsi's government climbs to 57% in the third quarter, Opción finds

In the third quarter of 2026, a poll by Opción found that 57% of Uruguayans disapproved of the performance of President Yamandú Orsi's government, up from 48% in the previous quarter. The government's approval rating dipped to 19% from 20%. The majority of Uruguayans, 30%, viewed the government's performance as very poor, while 27% considered it poor.

Only 16% saw it as good, and 3% rated it very good. Twenty-four% of respondents had no assessment, and 1% did not answer. Orsi's personal approval rating dipped slightly from 22% to 22%, but disapproval rose from 28% to 29%. The net rating for the government fell from -28 to -38 points, while Orsi's net rating went from -17 to -28.

The poll also showed that the number of Uruguayans without a settled view about the government's performance dropped from 51% to 24%. The largest increase in disapproval was among Frente Amplio voters, who went from 20% approving to 39% and 28% disapproving. Among Coalición Republicana supporters, 81% disapproved and 4% approved.

The poll attributed the lowest level of support to a Frente Amplio-led government at this point in a term, and noted that the controversy over an official vehicle purchase contributed to the findings. The poll was conducted by telephone with a sample of 806 people, and the maximum margin of error was 3.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
