Delhi LG approves 20% reservation for former Agniveers in fire operator posts, prison jobs

Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, has granted a 20% reservation for former Agniveers in critical roles within the Delhi Fire Services and Prison department. The decision follows the Union Home Secretary's letter on March 25, 2026, outlining the Government of India's policy for Agniveer rehabilitation. Former Agniveers will receive three years' age relaxation above the standard upper age limit on these posts, with a potential five-year exemption for the first batch.

Physical efficiency test requirements may also be altered for these candidates. If suitable ex-Agniveers are not found, standard government guidelines will apply. The 20% reservation is open to all former Agniveers, mirroring other reservation categories. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, mentioned that the Agnipath scheme anticipates 75% of the first batch Agniveers to complete their four-year service, yet the first batch's tenure is yet to conclude.
