CDU/CSU: Bouffier-Sohn soll in Führung der Unionsfraktion aufsteigen

Frederik Bouffier, a CDU Bundestag member, is set to rise to a leading position within the Union parliamentary group, taking over from Catarina dos Santos-Wintz as Parliamentary Business Manager. Dos Santos-Wintz was initially proposed for the role by Fraktionchef Thorsten Frei on Wednesday. Upon assuming this position, Bouffier would become his own deputy.

Frei confidently stated that Bouffier possesses the ideal qualifications and will convincingly handle the diverse responsibilities associated with the role. The 35-year-old lawyer is the son of former Hessian Prime Minister Volker Bouffier and has been a member of the Bundestag since 2025, representing the Gießen-Alsfeld constituency.

Prior to that, he served as a Hessian state parliamentarian since 2024. Bouffier brings a wealth of experience from various political levels and a broad network, particularly making a name for himself in the central area of domestic policy within the German Bundestag. His tenacious and solution-oriented nature, along with his strong team spirit, are also highlighted.

The election of dos Santos-Wintz is expected to take place in the first session of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group following the summer break, with her successor being chosen soon after. The reassignments were prompted by the resignation of Fraktionchef Jens Spahn (CDU). Frei was selected as the new Fraktionsvorsitzender in a special session.

Spahn had previously announced that he and his husband had adopted a child in the USA via a surrogate, a disclosure that sparked controversy even within the ranks of the Union.
