Black Queens demand payment of outstanding bonuses and better welfare support

The Black Queens, a women's football team from Ghana, have made a call to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and other relevant authorities regarding various financial and welfare issues. In a joint statement, the players expressed their concerns over unpaid bonuses and per diems, including a bonus from the 2025 WAFCON qualification, group-stage bonuses, and unpaid per diems. They demanded better management support for players and officials, as well as enhanced mental health and welfare assistance.

The players, despite representing Ghana with pride, highlighted the pressure they face during training, travel, and competition. They emphasized the personal sacrifices they make to honor their country. The players requested transparency, accountability, fairness, and respect from those in charge.

Regarding government support, the players mentioned that the Minister of Sports and Recreation visited them only once, during the team's first training session. The President also attended that session. Apart from that, they said they had largely relied on their teammates and technical staff throughout their campaign. The players appreciated the efforts of the team’s technical and support staff, who stood by them during the campaign.

The Black Queens clarified that their statement was not meant to create conflict or disrespect anyone. They expressed their belief in the team and their desire for a professional and supportive environment to foster its development. Despite their concerns, the players continued to work hard, remain focused, and represent Ghana with pride. They urged the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and other decision-makers to listen to their concerns, engage in discussions, and work towards resolving the issues promptly.

The Black Queens are set to face Côte d’Ivoire in a FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 qualification play-in match on Thursday.
