Bharat Tiwari killing: Two months on, Bihar government offers aid to family, Opposition says not enough

Two months after the police killing of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari in Bihar, the state government has announced financial assistance and a government job for a member of his family. Bharat Tiwari, a 28-year-old social activist, was killed in a police encounter in Bhojpur district on June 17. The decision came shortly after a judicial commission submitted an interim report into the killing.

The report is said to have examined all aspects of the encounter, including the Tiwari family's financial situation. While the government sources confirmed this, the Opposition argued that the priority should be determining responsibility for the encounter and ensuring justice. The Bihar Congress spokesperson, Asit Nath Tiwari, urged the state government to reveal the person who ordered the encounter, rather than deflect attention with financial aid.
