Bengaluru proposes Rs 25k fee for parking on road

The Karnataka government has proposed a draft parking policy for Bengaluru that would require residents to pay up to Rs 25,000 annually to park vehicles on residential streets. The Greater Bengaluru Area (Parking) Rules, 2026 also include hourly rates for parking on other city roads, ranging from Rs 40 to Rs 80 per hour. Small cars would pay Rs 15,000 annually for a permit, sedans Rs 20,000, and SUVs Rs 25,000.

On-street parking fees would depend on the road category: Category A roads would charge Rs 80 per hour for cars, Category B Rs 60, and Category C Rs 40. Two-wheelers would pay Rs 20, 30, and 40 per hour on Category A, B, and C roads, respectively. Off-street parking rates would be lower, at Rs 20-40 per hour for cars and Rs 10-20 for two-wheelers.

Monthly charges for off-street facilities would be between Rs 1,000 and Rs 4,000, with a 50% discount for nighttime parking. The policy aims to discourage long-term parking on city streets and make off-street facilities more attractive.
