Bauchi Chief Judge inaugurates LG election tribunals

Bauchi State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, recently inaugurated various tribunals in the region. These include the Local Government Election Tribunals, Appeal Tribunal, Family Court I, and Right of Way Mobile Court. During the inauguration at the Bauchi State High Court premises, Umar emphasized the importance of absolute impartiality, independence, and strict adherence to the law.

She stated that the appointments were made based on the competence, integrity, and commitment of the appointees to uphold justice. The Local Government Election Tribunals were established to handle disputes arising from the upcoming local government elections. Umar urged the tribunal members to conduct themselves without favoritism, regardless of political affiliations, backgrounds, or societal positions.

She stressed that justice must not only be done but also appear to be done, warning against yielding to external pressure or influence. The judiciary, according to Umar, is a vital pillar of democracy, and public trust in the electoral process hinges on courts and tribunals' ability to fairly resolve disputes. The Bauchi South Tribunal and Special Court will operate from the State High Court in Bauchi, the Bauchi North Tribunal and Special Court from the High Court in Azare, and the Central Zone Tribunal and Special Court will convene at the Magistrates' Court premises in Ningi.
