Bangladesh bowl out Australia for 198 in first test

Bangladesh dismissed Australia for a mere 198 runs in the first innings of their opening Test match in Darwin on Thursday, as paceman Hasan Mahmud claimed six wickets. The Australian total marked their lowest in seven Tests against Bangladesh. This score followed a nine-year gap since Australia were bowled out for 217 in Mirpur, marking their only test defeat by the South Asians in 2017.

Hasan's impressive haul of 6-55 ranks the third-best by a Bangladesh fast bowler in a Test innings, surpassed only by Shahadat Hossain's 6-27 and fellow teammate Ebadot Hossain's 6-46. Australia had resumed their innings at 183 for eight after tea, having won the toss and opted to bat on a scorching morning at Marrara Oval. Steve Smith led the Australian charge with a gritty 71 runs, and he was the sole batsman to cross the 30-run mark for his side.
